Filmed across the palm-fringed islands and coral lagoons of the Cook Islands, Moana Roa captures everyday life, traditional fishing, canoe racing, music, dance, agriculture, education and community life during the mid-20th century.

Originally produced while the Cook Islands was administered by New Zealand, this archival film provides an important record of the islands' history, traditions and way of life.

Re-shared in celebration of Cook Islands Language Week, we honour the language, culture and heritage of the Cook Islands and the generations who continue to keep it alive.
