Rookie of the Year to Kiwi Ferns Star - Ivana Lauitiiti’s Dream Season Continues

In just two months, powerhouse rookie prop Ivana Lauitiiti has achieved what many dream of across an entire career: an NRLW debut, Rookie of the year, Tackle of the year at 2025 Dally M’s and now a place in the Kiwi Ferns squad.
For the 19-year-old, pulling on the black and white jersey is more than a career milestone. It’s a dream that began on the fields of South Auckland, where she first fell in love with rugby league.
“Coming from grassroots footy here in New Zealand, I always dreamed of playing in the black and white jersey,” Ivana said. “To be selected in the squad is a blessing, and I’m grateful not just for myself but for everyone who’s supported me along the way.”
In just 24 minutes on debut, she ran for over 100 metres, made nine tackles, and delivered a brutal hit that had rugby league fans buzzing. Over the season, she appeared in six matches, all off the bench, crossing the line twice, averaging 105 running metres per game, breaking 36 tackles, and making a total of 71 tackles.
That fierce energy on the field contrasts with the quiet humility that defines her off it. Ivana’s journey has been shaped by her family, especially her parents, Ali and Janina Lauitiiti, whose influence and support have guided her from the beginning. Growing up, she watched her father, former Warriors and Kiwi legend Ali Lauitiiti, play in packed stadiums. Those early memories left a lasting impression.
“I was always at Dad’s games,” she recalled. “Seeing him play made me want to play too. But it wasn’t until we moved to New Zealand and I saw more girls playing rugby and league, especially my cousin Onjeurlina Leiataua, that the dream of playing professionally really grew.”
Ivana’s parents describe their pride with humility and faith, values they’ve instilled in all their children.
“Witnessing her pursue one of her dreams is truly special,” they said. “Our prayer is that she won’t be changed by the world she’s in, but that she’ll change the world for the better by being all that God has called her to be.”
They credit Ivana’s achievements not only to her work ethic but to the community that has surrounded her over the years. Coaches, teammates, friends, and extended family have all played a role in shaping her journey.
“Ivana’s accomplishments are a reflection of every prayer, every sacrifice, and every hand that has lifted her up,” her parents shared.
For Ivana, the motivation to keep pushing forward always circles back to her parents’ sacrifices. “They gave up so much for me and my sisters,” she said. “No matter how busy they were, they always made time for our games and made sure our fees were paid. The dedication they put into us is what keeps me going. It’s my way of giving back.”
Grounded in her faith, she carries a quiet confidence and purpose into every game. One of her favourite scriptures, Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,” is a verse she holds close as she navigates her growing career.
From cheering in the stands as a young girl to now wearing the same colours her father once proudly wore, Ivana Lauitiiti’s story has come full circle.
Named in the Kiwi Ferns squad to face the formidable Fetu Samoa at this weekend’s double-header, Ivana Lauitiiti is set to tick yet another milestone off her already remarkable year.
